So Sorry for you and us on the forum. I enjoyed reading his comments and viewing his "whittlings". From what little I know of him, he was living the life. Really sad and will be thinking of him.

Ron might not be around to make a comment anymore but he'll always be a prime example of just what this craft of ours comes to mean for most of us. When I received word of his passing I took a moment and went back over the many emails we exchanged over the past several years. I have no doubt that he had many varied interests in his life but though his comments it was woodcarving that dominated them all. Even on this forum it was clear that Ron knew what he liked, knew where he wanted to go, and knew that when he got there the trip was worth the effort. Here's the way he put in in one of his forum threads: "Just curious if you All have experienced some of the twists and turns that carving has taken me on, I started carving seriously less than three years ago, and have never been so Challenged. Carving animals has made me study skeletal make ups of numerous animals, Cowboys have required me to buy books, study history, look closely at old saddles and rigging, inspect firearms, make sketches, and then of course buy more books. and that lead to an intrest in horse drawn vehicles, buy more books, study everything I can find on line, and attempt a 1/8th in to the inch scale model of a chuckwagon, make more mistakes, study more information, Recently bought a book on how to make folds in fabric apear real carved in wood. Oh and of course one needs to know how to make the tiny little metal parts, so I am now studying how to make a homemade casting furnace. On and on it goes, Quite frankly I have never had such a good time." I never met Ron personally, didn't have the priviledge of shaking his hand but I count him as one of my best friends. I'm going to miss him!
