Default Junior Cobb

This famous carver passed away December 14th at age 70. He started carving puppets and figures and selling them to customers on his father's small ferry across the White River in North West Arkansas. He lived in a home he built from mostly from recycled scrap and preferred to spend most of his time in the outdoors, producing carvings when he needed a little money. He carved a variety of things, from hill folks to humming birds, and his work has been displayed in the Smithsonian. He traveled with Peter Engler to promote Silver Dollar City and visited the Johnson White House with then-Arkansas Governor Winthrop Rockefeller. He never denied the rumours that he carved his name on one of the desks at the White House.

Default Re: Junior Cobb

i hated to see the news of his passing, he strictly played life on his terms from what all i've read. amazing in our constant pursuit (or mine anyway) of more and better caving tools he used an ol hickory paring knife to create pieces that will be collected for generations to come and that are in the Smithsonian. RIP junior your knife will be forever sharp now
