Default John Williams, Ditidaht First Nation Carver

In August 2010, John Williams, woodcarver in the Ditidaht First Nation tradition, was tragically shot by policeman Ian Birk.
The city of Seattle has agreed to pay $1.5 million to his family in compensation. Birk quit the force.

This is a sad story indeed and came up on the board awhile back. I have also heard about it on the news from time to time.
Glad to see that the city of Seattle took responsibility, even though it will not bring John back.
Thanks for update.
Jim

That still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. "They shoot artists, don't they?"

Thanks for the update . It was a sad event . I hope the city learns from it and I hope Birk is denied any benefits .
