Default John Burke

The legendary John Burke lost his battle with cancer yesterday afternoon. The carving world lost a legend, but he will live on in the hearts of many people.

At least I can say I had the pleasure of meeting him, and I use his machine on almost a weekly basis. A great contributor to the carving world. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear this news. John was an institution in our craft and will be missed. He judged our local show here in the late 90's. Glad I had a chance to meet him. Our condolences to the family.

John Burke was a "one of a kind" KIND HEARTED carver, author, instructor and friend. He was named 2009 Woodcarving Illustrated 'Woodcarver of the Year'"-- a well deserved tribute to one of the shining lights in the universe of woodcarving. His influence lives on is all his students and admirers. Some photographs of his carvings are on my web log WoodBeeCarver Blog Archive JOHN BURKE - IN MEMORY

Don,
How nice of you. He was a "one-of-a-kind" man alright! I used to have carving classes in Calif. and he came and gave us a class in the late eighties. I have a carving by him, his sharpener, and a great carving I did in his class.....I will miss him.
