Default Jim Roane

Probably no one here knows him but this guy got more people interested in carving than anyone I can think of. He was a Natural resources police officer and knew more about nature than anyone I know. Once hiked the Mackeldin area of the Patapsaco State park with him. He stopped by the rivers edge and picked up a piece of soapstone and taght me how to carve a turtle from it when we were done we threw them in the river. Someday someone will find them and the river would have put a nice finish on them by then he told me. I became friends with many of the other rangers and have taught a few of them to carve. One stops to talk to me at least once a week and when he tod me were the memorial was goig to be held I'll be darned if it wasn't where we carved the soapstone. Gonna miss Ole Jim.

Don't take the lack of replies to your post as a lack of interest, I read it the first day but did not reply on account of not knowing Jim Roane. I've thought of your story regularly since then, what a fitting place for a memorial. I could only hope for one as special when I pass.

Goody,

Jim Roane sounds like the kind of person that makes those of who were once called Ranger very proud. The memorial is fitting for him. I hope that you will carve another turtle and throw it in there as a remembrance for you and an honor for him. Would love to see the face of the person who finds one of those soapstone turtles.
