If I may take a moment of your time to reflect on an old friend since passed. Every morning when I get up it is my job to make the coffee. Cliff Nelson who was a good friend on this forum to a lot of us personally passed last year after a long bout with cancer. I had the pleasure of meeting Cliff and his lovely wife before his passing. I took my own "Angel for Cliff" in the form of a woodspirit to give it to him. In turn he gave me a beautiful butternut spoon that he had carved and that I use for my coffee every morning because it is exactly one tablespoon of coffee. Athough he is gone I will not forget him how can I he enjoys a coffee with me every morning Just thought that I would take a few moments to remind those of you that were effected by Cliff as well. Thanks for taking the time to read this thread and remember an old friend since passed. Warmly Colin

Colin, I didn't know Cliff as you did, but after getting to know him here on the forum, I can tell you that I have thought about him often, even just recently in the past few days. I cannot see an angel or hear someone talking about angels without thinking of Cliff. Your post brought a smile to my face and placed warmth in my heart. Thank You. Mark |

Thank you Colin, I will never forget that funny sweet man! Before I signed up here, I would read the threads and his remarks would crack me up. Besides carving, he is why I signed up here. He always made me feel welcome. I loved how he would just say what was on his mind. His humor reminded me of my Mom. They were even born the same year. I remember when he proposed to Doris, I spit my coffee all over the moniter. I feel proud ( big Smile!!!!)that I was one of the woman here that he proposed too! I think I told him, one pain in the butt is enough! It was all in good fun though, he so loved his wife. We PMed each other quite often. Really got to know each other that way.We talked about his death and how he wasn't afraid to die, he was just concerned about his Vicky and how she would do. I remember when they took care of his"arrangements" he was so relieved to have that done so he could just enjoy the rest of his life. Before he found out the cancer came back,He asked me before he carved a spoon if he could copy mine and I said sure! He made way better spoons than what I ever did!He started a spoon revolution here! LOL I so wish I could of met him in person, but I am so Blessed to have met him here. He was the absolute real Deal! So to my Buddy, you are forever in my heart, and I am so honored you called me your buddy and friend.

I am a cancer survivor and, when Cliff wrote of the first diagnosis, we started sending emails to one another. He was amazed, and touched, by the angels. I told him that instead of carving an angel, I would carve a bird for his wife. There is still a small pile of black walnut shavings piled up under the end of my carving table, just not time yet to clean that area out. My grandfather once told me that the greatest thing you could say as a memorial is that this person was my friend. Cliff was my friend! |

Cliff was a brave man who made many of us realize the importance of annual checkups. His cheerful attitude in the face of his difficulties will be something I'll remember always.

I joined the forum too late to enjoy Cliff, but upon his passing I went back and read many of his posts. An obviously amazing gentleman who truly was the 'real deal' and I can only hope I handle my life with the strength, grace and humor of Cliff Nelson. Thank you Colin, for keeping alive the memory of this special man.

I had met Cliff on this forum and arranged to meet in person at the wood show in Hamilton Ontario. It was that in person meeting that I learned the cancer had spread. Cliff was such a joy to be around that day although he didn't have much energy. He had such enthusiasm for wood carving. It was a day I'll never forget. Every time I attend a wood show I think of Cliff.

Cliff was one of the first to welcome me to the forum. I am also a cancer survivor and even though we lived very close to each other I never got to Dunville to meet in person but exchanged a lot of messages. I had an open invitation to his place to go fishing and see his carvings. He will not be forgotten on this forum. Doug |
