Default A carver who will be missed

It is with sad regrets that I am reporting the passing of my carving mentor Roger Nancoz. I don't think he ever participated in the message board but he was an extraordinarily talented chipcarver wh did much to promote the art of carving. He was a member of the Long Island Woocarvers Assoc., former president, carver of the year featured carver in WCI, and teacher. His is work is on display in a local museum and I believe he has a piece in the WCI collection. He primarily carved custom plates and crosses that in his over 25 yrs. of carving found their way into many hundreds of homes.
I first met him at a 1 hr. seminar he was conducting at a local woodworker's show. There was something about his enthusiasm and willingness to share his talents that led me to remark to my son-in-law that "I feel I'm going to meet this man again". It took a yr and a half and a gift of a chipcarved cross from my sister to bring about that meeting. She told me it eas done by her friend Roger. I had only attempted some carving on my own at that point and was giving up. Roger phoned me and spent about an hour talking about carving as if we were old friends. He invited me to his house for a primer on chipcarving but first he invited me to his carving club. Ijoined the club that night and have been carving ever since.
Roger once told me he was passing on knowledge the same way it was given to him, no strings attached. His love of carving and willingness to share was indeed evident to all that met him.
Roger will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thanks Roger and Semper Fi!
Bill K.

Bill,

It's taken me a while to find you through this forum. I was unable to get any copies of my Fathers designs and his computer is no longer available to me. Could I obtain copies of his designs from you?

I'd appreciate any help you could provide.

Thank you.

Pete Nancoz.

Thumbs down Re: A carver who will be missed

yeah sure
I let you play me once out of respect to your father. Because of what you are doing to his wife, you don't deserve the time of day!

Bill,

I really don't need to defend myself here. There are two sides to every story and before you rush to any judgements, you should hear both sides. My email is in my profile and if, out of respect for my father, you want to hear the other side, please contact me.

Pete.
