| | Re: Yet another newbie, everybody! Welcome ! I am fairly new here also and so far it has been the best site I have ever belonged to. The people here are the most helpful and friendly people you could ever meet. I can't brag them enough, also, I think if you visit Lynn's site : http://www.outwestwoodcarving.blogspot.com/
you will see that he does a fair amount of carving with his "favorite tool " the box cutter. Anyways, welcome aboard and enjoy!

If you ever have trouble thinking up what to carve next, try some of the Florida critters such as Wally Gator, Pink Flamingos, Manatees, Tarpon, or maybe some of the snowbirds who come down every winter... I can see one now: a guy with a big belly, wearing shorts, black shoes and black socks, holding a cell phone next to his ear and holding a big black cigar in his other hand; probably wearing an aloha shirt with garish colors, and a little crumpled beach hat pulled low over his eyes (letting his bald spot show in the back!). Oh - don't forget the two pound Rolex on his wrist!

| | Re: Yet another newbie, everybody! Hey everyone: Thank you so much for such a warm welcome. I will try to post a picture of my carving tomorrow. I am not really good at technical computer stuff, but I'm sure I can figure it out. The carving I did was "loosely" based on Harol Enlow's Hillbilly head tutorial that was in WCI #23 (a featured article here). I wasn't able to do the eyes, couldn't figure that out with the box-cutter yet . I really want to do caricatures one day. I bought some hen-sized eggs so now I'm surfing for things to do with them. I'll keep ya posted. Dana |

| | Re: Yet another newbie, everybody! Greetings everyone:
I am going to try to include the picture(s) of my first carving of that hillbilly head. Be warned, not the best quality of pictures I've ever seen and to be honest, they kind of creeped me out . Guys, please belly up and tell me what ya think.
I decided to try to do a santa head on one of the eggs that I bought and I am finding out that curved lines are going to do me in! HA!.
I'll keep ya posted,
Dana
PS: I tried to upload the pictures and I need to figure out how to resize them first. I'll try to take better ones first though. Crappy camera!!!! Sorry about that.
