| | Yet another newbie, everybody! Hello everyone: I will try to keep this brief. My name is Dana and I am from south Florida (for now anyway). I'm a mom who has tried her hand in many creative pursuits. Happened upon carving and love it!!! Frustrated, too . Anyway, I contacted Lynn and he referred me here and to Rick for supplies. I was here lurking in the shadows too for a while and I notice that you guys are so supportive and kind. Love it. I did one carving so far (using a box cutter, I know don't yell at me. I was desperate and I don't recommend it at all to anyone). I will be investing in a beginner's kit from Rick soon. Just wanted to say hey and thanks for being supportive. |

| | Re: Yet another newbie, everybody! HEY! What's wrong with using a box cutter!?!
Welcome Dana! Nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned. Sure, you can use them other tools, but then you'd be just like everybody else! You just wanna be like everybody else--OR, do you wanna be SPECIAL, HMMM?!?!?
Jest kidding! Enjoy the website, and ask lots of questions!! |

| | Re: Yet another newbie, everybody! Absolutely nothing wrong with using whatever you have on hand to do a job with. Maybe a box cutter is not the ideal tool to carve with, but it has got to be better than using a filed down butter-knife, which is what I started with.
Welcome from the glorious Wet Coast! |

| | Re: Yet another newbie, everybody! Hello and welcome! I've been carving for less than one year and when I started all I had was a carving knife and lots of will to learn. My second purchase was a carving glove and thumb guard. Between this wonderful WCI message board folks and a carving club I joined I've learned so much. You can't go wrong making your carving purchases though Rick at Little Shavers their great folks to do business with. Looking foward to watching your carving ability grow. Something else that grows will be your carving tool box. LOL
