| | Re: Walking Stick Carving WELCOME Dewey,
There are several stick carvers on the board. I carve walking stick/staffs and cane as well as other in the round styles. Most of mine have had Boy scout themes like Indians,Eagles, nears and wolves. Have one WIP of a wood spirit on a stick I find on a hike.
This is a great board with friendly helpfull
carvers who will answer your question,
You probably can help others as well.
Hope to see you here often. |

| | Re: Walking Stick Carving I am in the middle of striping the bark of my diamond willow staffs. I was fortunate enough to find winter cut willow along a trail.
I hope to see your staffs/ walking sticks as well. |

| | Re: Walking Stick Carving Glad to hear from some of you carvers out there. It's great to see the variety of things each of us decide to carve. I tend to carve sticks with a theme, sometimes story poles. I'll see if I can attachment a few photos.

| | Re: Walking Stick Carving Some the most ornated walking sticks I have seen. Fantastic.
Hate to post mine now!!!!
Noticed the handle is a different piece. How do you attach the handle to the staff? |

| | Re: Walking Stick Carving Welcome! I just finished my second walking stick, both are Eagles but the second one turned out the best. My first try was a learning experience. I am wanting to do a Cobra Snake head next, just need to find some good pictures. |

| | Re: Walking Stick Carving Thanks! I used Black Walnut for the handles and either Mahogony, Birdseye maple or fur for the sticks. I used a mortise and tenon joint to secure the handles to the stick portion, then pegged them and glued together. The Black Walnut really smooths out great and feels great as a handle. Also inlayed tagua nut and tried my hand at scrimshaw. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
