I second that.... For a first attempt it is great. I know you learned a lot from doing it also. Are you attending a carving group someplace? Most first tries are not nearly that good.
I will pass along one tip that is really a major tool for carvers. Research your subject matter and gather photos, etc to view when you get ready to carve.
Horse photos, horse and rider/Native American, what ever you are planning to carve. All the great carvers that I know personally, do this.
Again, wonderful first piece. I can't wait to see where you go from here. |

| | Re: Trying to post pic I am sorry guys. I was not aware that I was posting in the "Welcome Members" forum. I was trying to start a new thread and that forum was the only one I could find to post. I am a new member but I have been carving for a few years. I started carving after I could no longer get around in other woodworking projects. I started as an old geezer and am having a little trouble with computer knowhow and posting.
This was not my first attempt at carving but thank you for your support.
I appreciate tips. I can certainly use a few. One can never get it all thru books and magazines. BTW How do I get to a forum to post other than the "Welcome Members" Squint |

| | Re: Trying to post pic Hi Squint,
I am guessing that you clicked on "New s" in the dark green band up above...... Look at the white boxed area just above it and you will see the words.... "Woodcarving Illustrated Message Board" Click on that and it should give you all of your choices of different sections such as Welcome Members, Off Topic, and below that a bunch of different topics such as Woodcarving in General, a Beginners section, Holiday carving, Chip carving and relief carving, wood burning, power carving, tools, wood finishing, etc....
You can click on any of those and post to a thread or start a new thread.
Welcome and enjoy.
PS
If you look off to the left side of the window in those catagories you will also find "message board" right under the banner " Carving Community" and you can click there too. |

Nice carving,
to help some navigating the forum,
at the top of the page in the frame just below the big advertisement that is animated,
is navigational menu Woodcarving Illustrated Message Board > Members and Magazines > Welcome Members> Trying to post pic
click on the words woodcarving Illustrated Message board and it will take you to the Main forum.
from there you can choose the sub forum that most closely matches your subject and post to your hearts content,
hope this makes it a little easier to navigate the forum and makes your stay a better experience.
if you get stuck just holler theres more than adequate help here... |
