Welcome tommyjoe, All you really need to get started is a pocket knife, with a blade that can be kept sharp....Oh and bandages, maybe a carving glove...There's good people here that will answer any questions you have.

Hey Tommyjoe,

Oh yeah, carving can be lots of fun. What are you thinking of carving? Any special interests? You'll find lots of celtic carvings on this site too - many proud Irish!

Welcome aboard and don't be afraid to ask any questions; people here are really good about answering pretty much anything!

Yes, take your time Tommyjoe. Try and find out what kind of carving you would like to try and then begin picking up your tools. No sense buying a complete set and find out later that you don't need them all. Once you determine your interest, post again and someone from this site will give you suggestions. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Welcome aboard Tommyjoe! I'm sure that if you look around you'll find some Irish carvers that can give you some pointers. I have a small carving of Cu Chulainn that was given to me by a friend in Athlone. Very nice work.
