| | Texas_Jim Intro Guess I should introduce myself. I've been a member for a while but I've been inactive. I live in the Fort Worth, Texas area but I am currently working on a contract in North Carolina.
I started carving a couple of dogs about a year ago and started with a book by Tom Wolfe. The book was a great help. I am mostly "self-taught" through the use of different carving books. Just after joining a carving club in Grapevine, I moved east for work. I have also done some relief carvings and Santas.
I am 55 years old, married to the same woman for 34 years and I have a 25 year old son and a 22 year old daughter. I am a computer programmer and contractor and it will be a few more years before I retire.
I've noticed that I tend to collect tools and books and sharpening machines and sometimes squeeze in some carving. Mostly because I am better at collecting than carving.
I've learned some great things from this message board and look forward to participating in the discussions.

| | Re: Texas_Jim Intro Nancy,
I bought a Tormek a year ago. Prior to that I had trouble sharpening V tools and gouges. It's a great machine and mostly I just need to use the leather stopping wheels to keep the edges in shape.
While carving, I do strop frequently using the flexcut profile board. |

| | Re: Texas_Jim Intro Hi Jim,
Welcome to our little community. I'm sure you will find it an informative, interesting and friendly place. I am still somewhat of a newbee myself...mostly self taught from books and advice from the many wonderful people who frequent here.
Again...welcome!

We're so glad you joined us. You know, there are good people who are good carvers all over the place. And most of us carve more some times --less other times. Hope to see you on here more now....come back soon and often!
