Hi Dan,

For a strong knife, have a look at the 2 1/4" Swedish laminated knives at littleshavers - These are very strong, hard and sharp. It is the only knife I have that will cut African Blackwood. Took a long time to sharpen first time round as the metal is so hard.

My second hardwood knife is a detail knife from Deepwood ventures, which has a fairly thick blade and comes sharpened to a mirror polish. I used this to carve olive wood, which is a fairly hard wood.

Hope that helps

Pete

Hey Pete,
Ironically I'm carving olive wood now. I can't wait to get to the end of this project. This would not have been my first chiice for a wood to whittle. I'm restoring an olive wood carving for a friend.

Thanks,
Dan
