Default self-intro

I was pointed to this site by Deborah Mills, after meeting her and seeing her gorgeous carvings at IPTW 2008 in Vermont and getting inspired to carve myself.
I've played with tools enough to pick up woodcarving fairly quickly, I think, and I'm aiming to practice to the point where I can hang out my shingle as a carver in my own right, particularly of architectural elements, less so of freestanding sculpture.
So hello to all! I've been very lucky so far in meeting carvers who have been most generous in sharing knowledge and advice, and I anticipate an extension of that on this board.

Tirzah, Yep! the members of this board are just what you are looking for. What part of Ohio you from? And when can we see some of your woodwork? I know very little about architectural carvings, but there are some on this board that do quite a lot of that specialized carving.....

Again welcome!

Tom H

Tom,
Thanks for the welcome!
I'm in Ashland, about midway between Cleveland and Columbus. Eyeing the Dayton show this fall just to learn a lot of things in one place.
I've got a photo but it's not online anywhere...once I upload it to somewhere I can post it. Nothing spectacular, but for the time and tools that I had available, I think it's a decent sampler piece. I've already got more ideas than sense.

Welcome. Just so you know WCI has the ability to download pictures from your PC so you can post stuff without having to put them on Photobucket or the like.

I've recently become interested in carving my own moulding pieces so seeing works from someone who knows what they are doing.
