Default Sam From PA

Hi All,

My name is Sam Joseph from Greensburg, PA. I retired in 2002 and have really been able to concentrate on carving since then, although I have been carving on and off since I was about 9 years old.

I have been a lurker on the old board. I am self-taught- recently picking up many of the fine carving books available to give me a little help. Years ago I subscribed to 'The Mallet' which was about the only dedicated woodcarving magazine of the time. Anyone remember that one? Now, there are several good magazines available and I found them a great help in improving my carvings. I have done some power carving in the past, but now pretty much do just knife carvings in the caricature style of people and animals using basswood.

I picked up an enormous number of tips since I became a lurker on this list. Great list! Keep up the good work Bob.

Hi Sam,

Glad you decided to speak up. Please remember that "lurking" only helps one person while contributing your experiences and questions helps us all.

Welcome, Sam...we're so glad to have you join us. MOST of us who aren't retired yet, are SOOOOO envious of all the time you have to carve. Thanks for joining our ranks and come back and visit often. I actually have some old copies of the Mallet--kinda cool, aren't they?

Hi Sam,

I like your web page especially your caricature carvings. I'm in Beaver County so I hope to meet you one day at one of the local shows.

Hey, Ken - let me know when there are some local shows - please. I haven't heard of any so far. I just joined a local club - the Keystone Carvers. Maybe they will know of local shows too. Catch you at one of the shows.

Welcome aboard Sam,

It's great to be a lurker sometimes...specially when you are so new to a "craft" such as carving. I know I lurked for several months before posting anything. But now I feel comfortable posting because the board has made me feel welcome.
