Default rookie all the way.

Well,I'm kinda new at computer stuff but I figured I'd give this a shot.I took an intrest in chainsaw carving recently and haven't even took a swing at my first work of art yet,I am however getting together all the tools I'll be needing-any advice or suggestions are welcome.I haven't been to any classes for this thing,I've just watched a couple of guys do it during my travels for work.I'm a wildland firefighter so I can use a saw with the best of'em,but carving with a chainsaw is a whole different ball game.I'm super excited to get started and I'm stoked to have found this site. Thanks to all who respond.

Welcome to the forum Idaho.

I am not chainsaw carver as I am having a hard enough time keeping my blood to proper levels working with detail knives and carving tools...

Plenty of darn fine chainsaw carvers on this site so I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice.

Woodland firefighter? Thats too cool (so to speak...)

Again, welcome.

Thanks for the info ya'll,yeah timberwolf-saws can mess with a guys bloodlevel from time to time LOL!And being a wildland firefighter is the greatest stuff ever man, lots of good folks and lots of cool places to go.Though, the winters tend to be long and mind numbing-hopefully I can cure that with my new found intrest.I actually like all the carving styles,I'm just real familiar with saws and have saw fuel in my veins, but all in all bro I really dig all the carving styles-it's freakin' cool.

Hello and welcome, some of our members are teachers in that style of woodcarving. I will offer you this advice, as a Fireman you will understand. Buy your safety gear first I include a carving bar in safety gear you can do things with it, that a regular bar will kick back. Most of the guys get wrapped around the axel about this saw or that saw; hey you can carve wood with a Wal-Mart saw just put a carving bar on it.
