Hello everybody now don't be fooled by my qualifications. I am a sawdust maker and a chisel and gauge or gouge blunterer.I spend my time making sawdust so that I can resharpen the tools. I really would like to make a few nameplates to start with for the grandchildrens doors and have looked at your site regularly to gain some inspiration which I hope to glean from your
obviously very expert members. So wish me luck and hear we go.

Jonesy,
Welcome aboard.
I have chip carved many nameplates for children and adults. Lettering is a snap with chip carving. Kids plates are easy to personalize with cartoon characters, flowers, sports symbols etc. I would chip carve the outline of the figure, stain the cuts and then paint between the cuts wth acrylic paints.

Welcome Allejo. We all started out as kindling makers. Me, I still make kindling but occasionally I get a keeper. Chip carving is a good suggestion and all you need is a knife.
