Default not really new, but...

I came in through the side door; I have been scrolling a while and subscribe to SSW and had been on the forums there. I have been carving some here and there for a while (years), but recently have taken a more serious interest. I am not very good at it yet. I have done a lot of contouring of scroll saw stuff but only a little "pure" carving. I will be taking a course for 2 days in February on carving animals. Right now, I am mostly roughing out and practicing detail on scrap. I figure when I get better at detail I will have all the rough outs (I have a bunch of mahogany beams and I am roughing bodies that can be people, bears or ? later). I also have interest in mallet work, but don't have the tools yet. I am in Raleigh, NC.

Welcome aboard. Sounds like you done been bit. You'll probably never be the same. All you're gonna want to do is carve wood now, or maybe saw and carve. Turrible affliction,.......carving and scrollsawing. Might be terminal. May cause all sorts of extended problems,......paintin', etc.,.....no end to extended afflictions. Hope you survive!!!!!
Again welcome aboard. You're welcome to join all the rest of us addicts.

Yeah, I am pretty sure this hobby will stick. I have had the wood working bug for years dabbling in various aspects and scrolling and carving are what I keep coming back to; can be done in my small space and isn't as intimidating or loud as some other wood working. A lady over on the scroll side posted about the scroll saw scaring her. I should have posted one way to get over it - get a lathe! That machine scared the you know what out of me like nothing else in the shop has. I made a few nice things on it, but I also made some shrapnel. I only have half a space in the garage, but for scrolling and carving that's plenty.

After my Christmas haul, carving will definitely be a prime activity.
