Default Newbie in Titletown

Afternoon everyone. Over the past summer's camping excursions with the family my youngest daughter came across a nice 5' piece of aspen that over the course of camping I carved into a nice little hiking stick just using my camp knife. Well when the kids asked what I would like for my birthday last week I told them how much I enjoyed making the stick & said I wouldn't mind a wood carving set.
So the kids went ahead and got me a gift card for one of the local wood working vendors, but after pricing some of the tools they carry there, I couldn't justify spending that type of money on a set.
So I came across this website, and last night I put in my order for the beginner set from "Little Shavers". I can't wait to get it & get started.
Looking forward to getting to know some of the people here & picking up any tips I can.

Ah Yes! Fellow "Packer Backer". Welcome, I too am from WI, but now dwell in TX. I hope you enjoy woodcarving as much as I have. I do miss the abundance of woods available from up North! You should have an enjoyable hobby.

Welcome aboard. This is a great bunch of chip makers, and if you need any advice, just hollar! I'm sure someone aboard here can come up with an answer.....not always the right one..... but an answer none the less!

Hello from England! What fun to get your first set of proper tools. How about showing a picture of the hiking stick you made?

Welcome Fzntundra!

You made three great moves so far--took up wood carving, found this website, and bought Rick's starter set! You are well on your way to a fun filled time. Ask questions, and use a carving glove, and it'll be even better!

Enjoy!
