| | Newbie/Oldie Hello, everybody!
I'm a newbie to this forum; a newbie to carving; and an oldie to life!
...Maybe I can narrow that list down to just '1' ...
I've been collecting walking sticks for a few years, but just recently (couple of years) decided to make my own. -- It's really enjoyable!
I have to have a little help walking, so I have to use a cane anyway, but doing it with something that I've made myself, really makes a BIG difference. {Almost makes me glad I need a cane!}
Well, I guess I'll lurk around and see what I can learn from people that don't have band aids on their fingers all the time... |

| | Re: Newbie/Oldie Greetings and salutations! Pretty soon you'll have a whole bucket full of canes and sticks just like the rest of us! The damdest thing is that you can only use one at a time..... heck of a perdicament!

| | Re: Newbie/Oldie Ronray, Welcome aboard! Great group here. But, what do you mean about those without bandaids on their fingers. I have been waiting for about 6 months for a time when all of my fingers and thumbs are without a band aid, flap of cut skin, or a fresh scab. Just when I think I'm free of all cuts, and ready to take some photos, I have a little slip.....Tom H |

| | Re: Newbie/Oldie It "is" way more satisfying using a cane you've made yourself! If you have to use one, why not make something that says a bit about who you are , at the same time!

| | Re: Newbie/Oldie Hey there Ron, nice to see another old bird like me on here. I'm just a yuoung 76 and starting out with carving. I really like the wood spirits and I'm about ready to start a cane,(I better hurry because I'm going into the hip factory for a new one come March) Problem with me is I can't decide what to carve on it, it's gotta be simple because I'm brand new to this whole carving thing. Good luck to you and you have yerself and family a great Christmas season.

| | Re: Newbie/Oldie Thanks for the welcome, y'all!
Listening to everybody talk (or reading how everybody writes), I guess it's true that we are all brothers under the skin. Funny, ... how a sharp piece of metal and a slab of wood or stick brings out a certain character and personality of a person that nothing else quite reaches.
(Maybe the psychiatrists ought to try it!)
I really like Eddy's sig; It pretty well sums up my feeling about all this! :-)
Anyway, I appreciate the hospitality and hope to talk to all of y'all soon.
