Default Newbie on the Front Range

Hi all, I am Anne. I am a faily new carver and brand new to this group. I have been chatting a bit in the power carving section, as I had questions there. Thanks Susieq for the great help. (I just ordered a dust mask )

I live in Colorado just a little north of Denver. I started carving in Jan when i joined the Colorado Carvers group down in Denver. I drive and hour to meetings and really enjoy this group.

I have not made a lot, only one finished piece so far and am thinking about doing some reworking on it. LOL I am working on some tiny fish and just started on a spoon yesterday. My DH bought me a really nice scroll saw last weekend, so now my old one is for sale and I have gone nuts scrolling this week. I am finally learning what I wanted to do for years now.

I am learning to carve while we live here so I will know more when we retire to eastern Washington state. The closest clubs to where I will live there are 2.5 to 5 hour drives. I am doing the same with learning to paint watercolors while I live here.

My husband and I have too many hobbies. The only carving he wants to do is on furniture he wants to make after retirement. He is mainly into vintage cars and motorcycles. I have been a quilter, beader and crafter for many years. A vew years ago I learned tatting. I had to give up yarn work because of carpal tunnel problems. I exercise care with my hands because of arthritis, which seems to be in remission to a great extend now.

I have found carvers to be friendly and helpful. I have found wonderful information in this board last night that bears further exploration.
Anne

Yes I did find her site and do hope these are the ones I tried at the tool show.

DH and I went to the county fair today, then to dinner and finished at the bookstore. I got a new issue of the British carving mag I really like. I also got a quilting book I have been looking for and a painting book that had been recommended to me. DH got 2 vintage vehicle books and some magazines. We were naughty but had fun.

Welcome, Anne,
We're so glad that you could join us. Hope you learn lots here---and contribute so that other new carvers can learn from you, too.

You're in a beautiful part of the country--sorry to hear that help is so far away, but perhaps we can fill in some of the gap. My second carving sat on the shelf for a couple of years before I figured out how I wanted to finish it. I still get "finish" qualms from time to time and just need to step back until I decide what to do.

Welcome Anne. I'm glad you are having fun learning new things. I wish I had discovered carving when I was younger.
