Smile Newbie

I've been poking around on the forum for a couple of months. I've enjoyed art and woodwork my entire life, but have never devoted time to it. I've done some research and have come to the conclusion that I could enjoy this not only as a hobby, but hopefully some suppliment income once I reach retirement age.

I'm posting my first carvings. One is a relief the others are mixtures of study stix and carvings I've seen of others that I've tried to imitate. I've got a ways to go, but I'm enjoying it. I'd eventually like to do caricatures along with human releif. I'd like to carve in what I believe is called the round. I've been impressed with the help everyone is willing to give. I'd be interested in your comments. If I did it right I posted them in the order I did them. Looking forward to your comments as I grow in this skill. The pictures may not be the clearest.

Thanks for your interest,
Jim

Hello Jim, and welcome! I can see improvement with each one. It's really a matter of doing what you have done. The more you carve the better you will get. I hope you continue carving and keep the interest. As you know we are here to help all you need do is ask.

Hello and welcome, Jim.

What a terrific start. Your love of art and familiarity with wood puts you way ahead of the game. Based on your first carvings, I'd say you're well on your way.
