Red face New to the world of Wood Carving

I have posted a few times already, and I figured it would be a good idea introduce myself.

I'm Bob from Edison, N.J. I am new to wood carving. I have an interest in lettering and drawing, and woodworking with hand tools. So, I thought I'd combine the three by carving letters in wood. I am learning as I go--slow, but sure--and I'm enjoying it. It's relaxing, and the time goes by quick.

I am and have been employed as a civil draftsman for about 26 years--drawing bridges, roads, sewers, and whatever else is falling apart and needs fixing here in New Jersey. Since 1974, I enjoyed being a volunteer with a rescue squad in my town. I saw and did a lot more than I ever bargained for. I am now a life member of the Squad. Because of the nature of the work, I felt EMS and rescue is a "young man's (and woman's) game". So, I decided it was time for me move on, and let the up and coming guys and gals have their "fun". So, now I am enjoying my extra time and "Just Carving".

I enjoy reading and learning about wood carving--and of course the little bit of fun you folks are having here, too. Thanks for letting me in--and I hope I don't alienate too many people too soon.

So in advance, Nice to meet ya.

Bob

NEW JERSEY ?? NEW JERSEY ??
That's my idea of a little slice of heaven. Drive a little south of Edison and you hit Point Pleasant, Barnegat Bay, go a bit farther and there's TUCKERTON, Absecon, Cape May, Goshen. Wow. Best decoy carvers in the world.
Ooops ... got a bit off the subject. Sorry, New Jersey does that to me.

Welcome to the gang, Bob. Glad to have you with us.

Hey Bob, WHAT EXIT??? (LOL)

Can't wait to see some of your lettering work. I bought a lettering book this past december but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
