Sure thing Rafe - I'll stop by the PO tomorrow and find out the costs. I'll have to swing by the local Lowes or Barnes & Noble to get you a copy. I also have some dupes of some issues and I think some dupes of Carving Mag as well. I'll toss them in just for fun if it doesn't cost too much.

Yep - Chris Pye's site is great. Lot's of really good info there. Though he is much more in the traditional carving vein working mainly with gouges on relief carvings, architectural, and larger sculptural works. Man knows his stuff though. I dream about coming to the UK and taking a class with him.

I also dream about coming over at some point before they're too old to play anymore - for the annual Fairport Convention Cropredy music festival. I am a huge fan of them, Steeleye Span and the various members other projects. Also a fan of UK Premier League football.

I'll let you know soon about the postage and we can make arrangements via PM.

Chuck, you're a star! Is there anything I can do for you in return?

to help Rafe. For me? Nah - just Paypal me the costs of shipping and the cover price of issue 43 and we're good. I'll let you know the total.

Then maybe someday when I come to the UK you can give me the inside scoop on how to get around inexpensively, avoid the tourist traps, and maybe we can hoist a pint together at a local pub. I'll do the same for you if you come to NY.

I'll get back to you with the cost.

Chuck, what a cool thing to do for Rafe--way to go!

Rafe, there is a carving magazine I buy from time to time called 'Wood Carving' and it's printed in England. Have you seen it? Subscription Hot Line Tel: 01273 488005 and email pubs@thegmcgroup.com.

This is a really nice magazine and Chuck I have seen articles by Chris Pye. Have you seen the magazine also?

There is one carver in particular that I really just love his work and it's Bill Prickett. In the March/April 2008 he has a demo with pattern on carving a Red Squirrel. Bill Prickett is based in Kent and teaches on a private basis. His web site address Wildlife Sculpture, Carvngs, bronzes, wood originals Anyway, Rafe hope this helps,
Kathy

Yep - I pick it up pretty regularly on the newsstand. Great mag - and yes - I like Bill's stuff too.

Highly recommended Rafe!

Thanks Kathy.

Chuckt, I'm pleased you pick-up this magazine too. Rafe, hope you can find 'Wood Carving' (sorry Rafe just saw your early post, glad you can get the magazine).

I wanted to mention I have Susan Irish's newest book "Relief Carving Wood Spirits" and it's a good one. She even dedicated the book to us here at WCI Message Board.

Off to the BBQ up the street, could be interesting as it thunder and lightening and hail.

Hey Rafe -

Just a quick update. I got it packaged up last night and my wife will send it out today. I'll invoice your Paypal when I get the total from her. I threw in a dupe copy of a past WCI issue (forget now which it was) as well as a dupe issue I had of Carving Magazine (the US mag).

Not sure how long they'll take to reach you, but hopefully not too long.
