| | New from the UK Hi there, I'm Rafe
Total beginner at carving though I have tried a few simple things in the past. My usual hobbies include leather and bone work. I saw a link to issue #43 on a bushcraft forum and followed it here. Just trying to find the easiest way to get the magazine over here now!

| | Re: New from the UK Welcome Rafe. Ifyou ask Shannon or BobT about getting the magazine they will have your answers. Send them a PM or go over to the publishers forum and ask there. I'm sure if you are interested there are other folks on your side of the world interested as well. |

| | Re: New from the UK Rafe,
I answered your question on the other thread, but I'll be glad to answer here as well.
You can subscribe through us, or the Guild of Master Craftsmen. I'm not sure if the subscriptions distributed through GMC is any faster, though...
The US Postal Service says even here in the states, magazines can take 6-8 weeks to arrive at a person's house.
Best regards,
Bob Duncan

| | Re: New from the UK Rafe,
Glad you found us--and the awesome Wood Carving Illustrated magazine. Carving is such a great activity and you'll find all kinds of help here on this website...and in the magazine.
There is an active carving group in UK...Peter Benson (or Bensen--I can't remember the spelling) is chairman of it and I regularly supply his email address to new carvers "over there" so you can benefit from his guidance and knowledge. I have his email address at home...and I'm on vacation in Vermont. If you want to contact him, send me a PM (private message) on this board and I'll email it to you when I return.
Welcome!
Donna T

| | Re: New from the UK Well, I managed to sweet talk my lady into letting me choose my birthday present from Amazon tonight - Whittling Twigs & Branches, Wood Spirits and Green Men and for a finale she's getting me a new pocketknife, the Victorinox Pocket Pal Swiss Army Knife.
Can you tell I'm happy? 10 days to go!!!
I'll do a 'complete beginners perspective' review of the books when they arrive if you want |

Don't forget a carving glove and thumb guard to protect those digets. Vet tape works great for for a thumb guard and a fisherman's glove will work good too. ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif) carving, if you need help just ask.

| | Re: New from the UK Hey Rafe -
Missed your intro post. Welcome!! Great site - and great folks here. You'll LOVE it. Did you ever figure out how to get WCI over there? There's GOT to be someone who distributes it there. If worse comes to worse I'll get the copy you want and send it to you, but the postage is probably stupidly high.
I have the Woodspirits & Greenmen book too. It's fantastic. And I'm a big admirer of its authors including your own (UK based) Chris Pye. I have many of his books too. They're EXCELLENT - so maybe for Christmas you can convince your lady to give another trip to Amazon. Of course more money spent on books - is less money for TOOLS. It can be a challenging balancing act. ;-)
Welcome - and glad to have you here!!

Yeah I can't find anyone here who stocks the magazine, even the people who stock the books don't cary the mags. If you could find out how much it will cost you to do that it would be great I'm dying to try my hand at those wizards!
I found Chris Pyes website last night, a lot of useful info on there including a whole load of e-books for free download so I was on there quite some time Chris Pye: Woodcarving
Thanks for the welcome, hope to be here for a long time to come!
Thanks
