Default New to the Site

Just logged in tonight. I am a Scouter and teach Woodcarving in a Summer Camp. I have been at it a couple of years. Trying to learn. Woodcraft talks a great story on their site but has little to offer that does not require expensive tools and lots of room. I alreay have assembled a few knives and gouges, stropes and sharpeners primarily to teach and carve in the round. I just received Chris Lubkemann's The Little Book of Whittling and am ready to go with it. This past weekend I worked with a Troop and they carved the jellly spreader in the last issue of Wood Carving Illulstrated. I am running an Advanced Workshop for Boy Scouts this Spring and am really trying to get a quality program set up. I am retired and went to school after retirement and now teach parttime college courses. A grandfather who loves the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and whittlin' and carving. That is a little about me and it is way past this ole Twig Carver's bedtime. Beauty sleep is key to a long life. A little luck helps too.

Welcome aboard Twig Carver. Good for you helping the boys build up their caring interest, something they will enjoy all of their lives. Tons of great ideas for simple carving in WCI past issues, and lots right here within the group. Some great carvers here and very willing to share their experience. Enjoy.

Bob

Yes, welcome, Twig Carver. I'm another one of those Scout leaders here on the site, have been the Handicraft Director at Tesomas a few years back, and have taught Woodcarving Merit Badge to our troop . Mostly supervised younger staff teaching the course, at camp. I think there are at least 4 other leaders on this site, too.

What kind of carving do you plan to teach in that Advanced session you are working on? If you give some specifics, I'm sure there are many here that will offer suggestions that you can use.

Al
