Welcome Robert,
Glad you figured out the posting process and glad you found our message board. You'll find lots of good stuff here about all kinds of wood projects.
Tell us a bit about yourself--where you're from, what you do in your "other" life, etc.

Hello everyone, I am also new to woodcraving, I took an Art Class back in the '70's, Commercial Art and did well but the starting pay wasn't to good so I stayed working for the Railroad.

I draw all the time, and my goal is to be able to carve as well as I draw, most of my work is Railroad stuff, Old Locomotives I am in a Early Diesel Passenger Locomotives presently.

For my 1st attempt at carving, I chose the Old time L&N RR Logo. But the lines are really tight, and I am having difficulty with them, any suggestions? If this come out decent I plan to do L&N E6 #770, this locomotive was used in the 40's & 50's for trains from Chicago to New Orleans. It will be difficult to the wheels & suspenction, that's why I am trying such a hard Logo.

Email me or send me suggestions.

Robert, welcome to the board. I tried working with the wine barrels before, but by the time I got it empty I was too drunk to play with sharp tools!Wink

Red face to hard of a Carving

On the 1st try, I chose for carving was a small L&N Logo from the early days of the railroad, fancy & small, it was to hard to keep the wood from getting into what I wanted save.

So, I had to enlarge it, so far so good. instead of a 6inch logo it is now 12inches. We learn from our mistakes.
