Default New from Michigan

Just checked in to this site. I work with gourds and love to wood burn on them. Have enjoyed roaming around different places on this site - just left the Ornament Exchange - was wondering if there was a folder with all the photos of the different ornaments that were exchanged. I have participated in an exchange before - only with gourds - and in that one we all sent in our names and then whoever was running it drew names to match up who would send to whom ... when the exchanges arrived at their destination people posted photos of the item - really interesting to see as some were painted, some were wood burned others were chip carved (u-shaped gouge) and yet others were made using craft clay to sculpt ... all different and amazing. I can't believe you all send 17 or so ornaments out! Remarkable!

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Welcome Rita, I haven't seen any images of the Christmas exchanged ornaments, but they may be waiting until all have been received. I participated last year and uploaded the images of my ornaments as I received them. It was fun, and I'm sorry I didn't have time this year to be a part of it again. I have worked with gourds also and burned on them. Aren't they an interesting medium.
You have a wonderful Christmas too.
Kathy

Hey Rita,
Welcome to our fantastic message board. I've enjoyed visiting with you and look forward to your active participation in our various topics.

We've got some avid gourd artists here--I've tried carving/burning them and shared seeds with several folks. One of the most fun things I've done with them was to teach a group of native American youngsters down in Oklahoma about gourding. Some of their "elders" commented that it was an art they were sad to say had not been passed down to the younger generations. I felt like a bit of a fraud--but just showed them what I knew.

Glad you joined us.

Hello everyone - thank you so much for the enthusiastic welcome! I think I will snuggle down in that chair over by the fireplace if noone is going to be sitting there to chip carve or whittle! I can always use the poker for burning on my gourds!

For the past week I have roamed around in here, checking the posts, looking at pictures etc - it is a most enjoyable board to be at and I am sure I will thoroughly enjoy myself here. I DO need to research more on pyrography on paper - that is something else to behold ... if there are tutorials out there I hope someone will let me know! I have to thank several of you who emailed me back to answer my questions about woodburning or a burner - you were all so wonderful and helpful!
