| | New member, new carver. I'm Toffeeliz, live in England and have been carving when I can since Easter. My first piece was completely on impulse when I'd finsihed my work early in the 3D workshop (part of my college course) and played around with a scrap of pine. I got really into it, and now have a wierd face sat next to me on the computer desk.
I'm interested in making puppets and figurines, but my next piece is goimng to be a simple relief; I don't think I should attempt anything too complex while just starting. My granddad has been eally surportive and has spent this morning helping me get a workroom together in our outhouse (the size of the spiders we saw in there!). When it's in full working order, you'll see more work from me, until then it'll be the one finsihed piece I have and a whole lot of questions. glad to meet you all!
p.s - are there many female carvers on here? |

| | Re: New member, new carver. Greetings from Canada and welcome aboard. You'll meet a lot of really swell people on this forum and each and every one of them will give any advice and help needed, all you have to do is ask. To bad your not in Canada, I'm lookin for a new wife.(had the old one for 54 years) think it's time for a change (just kidding). One thing to remeber, keep the knife on the wood and off the fingers, a satey glove is a must.

| | Re: New member, new carver. Welcome to WCI. Fingernails, what fingernails? I chew mine down to the knuckles most days.
BTW, one of the greatest things about wood carving is you don't have to have a lot of space or tools. A piece of wood and a knife is the only thing required, though I seriously suggest some safety equipment. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
