Default New Member and very new carver

Hello all,

I just started carving a few weeks ago. I am into power carving. The only thing I have carved so far is a chain link and the leaf pin that were in the Wood Carving Illustrated magazines. They both turned out pretty well, and I find that the carving process is very theraputic. I look forward to looking over the message board for lots of good advice on power carving.

Thanks!!!

Hello Alodo. I carve 99% of my carvings without power unless I have a very large log and need to use my carving disc and grinder tool. I'm very interested in chainsaw carving but don't live in an area to allow me to be buzzing in the back yard. You'll find a number of power carvers here. I can see the appeal as I have a dremel that I pick up if I can't accomplish something with my hand tools. Hope you enjoy the message board.

Welcome aboard Alodo! Carving of any sort is great therapy, relaxes you and takes you to a place where time stands still!

Hi, Alodo - welcome to the forum! As Dave suggested, a mask is important, and I'd also suggest leather gloves while power carving. Don't use the knitted Kevlar gloves for power carving - a bit can get caught up in the Kevlar and hurt you badly.
