Hi Folks:

I'm new to the beard as well as being relatively new to carving. I started last winter after buying a Harley Refsal book on Scandinavian carving and have been to one of his classes in Decorah, Iowa. I'm located near Battle Lake, Minnesota (west central part of the state). My carving has been limited to the flat place style - the only tool I've used so far is a basic carving knife.

JohnM

Welcome to the forum, you live in a beautiful part of the state. I used to come to Alexandria (Rush lake) when I was a kid fishing each summer. Now I come to Minneapolis 3-4 times a year for business.

You can do alot with a good carving knife. As time goes on you can spend a small fortune on the craft. The more I sell the more I buy.... Some day I will have enough tools ..... Right???

Again, welcome.

Greg

Hello, JohnM welcome. Did you see the tutorial on flat plane carving on this site? It's a good one you might want to take a look. "Carving The Minature Flat Plane Santa "

Welcome John....

Mastering the flat plane style takes a lot of skill - as does any carving.

Good luck and remember - be safe!
