| | new member Hello all,
This is my first post and I thought an introduction would be appropriate.
I am an amateur cabinet maker/woodworker who got interested in carving after working on some built up door mouldings for my coworker's house. I viewed some of the restoration woodworking catalogs and was immediately taken by the beautiful carvings of period architectural woodwork.
Until recently I was strictly a power tool type of woodworker. I naturally gravitated to hand tools.. planes, scrapers, chisels etc and find work with handtools immensely more satisfying and I might add, more accurate.
Anyway, that is how I ended up on your doorstep. I am looking forward to this next learning experience . This forum looks like a great place to start. |

Eric, The more I work with wood the more I appreciate and use hand tools. I can't quite say that I am completely eschewing power tools.. they have their place, but there isn't anything quite like the sound of a plane or sharp chisel doing what it is designed to do.. sure beats the whine of a router. |

| | Re: new member Welcome aboard. All tools have their place, power or edged, some just have a better feeling when you use them. Some are work....some are pleasure.
Enjoy the board, it's a great place to learn, teach, share and make friends.
