| | New member Hello out there. My name is Linda. I live in Edmonton, Alberta and I carve woodspirits, self taught after a 1 day course. Have been carving for about 6 years now, mostly in cottonwood bark. Am feeling stuck and wish to learn more, do not know how to carve in the round.
Am looking forward to learning new things, love the tutorials. |

I'm a new member too there is a lot to look at and learn here.
If your going to carve a bust in the round and your new at it carve the face first. Don't cut the ears or the back of the head till your satisfied with the face that gives you room to cut in more if you make a mistake also don't forget to look at the profile and the top and from under the carving.

I am a new member and have never used a message board. I can't find a place to make posting. Can you tell me where to start?
I am not new to carving, I guess I am an "amatuer carver with experience".
I like characature, relief, chip and lettering. I like bark, basswood, "found" wood, golf balls.
I am also interested in woodworking, gardening and fishing. ,

| | Re: New member Hello Linda and welcome to the forum! I’m also a newbie here and just so you know I think we all fell like were stuck from time to time. I’ve been having some trouble carving my first caricatures but the funny thing is that by facing those difficulties, I can challenge my abilities and with enough practice we can all improve. P.S. Hello berkbc and Welcome, now when you enter the welcome members section, below the member galleries at the left hand corner you will see a logo that says: New Threats, click on it to post . |

| | Re: New member Ah yes, carving in the round
Best way to learn is to jump right in there and give it a try. One hint, sneek up on it. Once the wood is gone it is ..... gone :>)
Don't ask how I know.
Greg

Thanks for the welcome. I think I may be able to navigate this board if I am lucky. I just joined the group last night. Any way I will keep trying. I live in Mechanicsville VA, and belong to James River Woodcarvers. Joining this club has really introduced me to some wonderful friends who are all ready and willing to help in any way they can.
Thanks
berkbc
