Thanks for the warm welcome!I'm from Vacationland --The Great State of Maine.Ayuh!

I enjoy carving Santa Figures.

I've collected all types of Santa figures, old and new,for 25 years.I draw and paint,so it made sense for me to try my hand at carving some.I carved for 3 years at the beginning.I still have a lot to learn.

My wife was after me,for the last couple of years,to carve some for Christmas gifts. So,I started carving again, about a month ago.I've done eight so far.

I used some odds and ends of basswood that I still had hanging around.I ran out of basswood,so for the last two Santas,I used scraps of cedar left over from when I built our 8-ft.high stockade fence.I need to pick up some more basswood.

The cedar for the fence came from logs a friend gave me.I had it milled at a one-man operation. The boards are unplaned, and cut in random widths.I cut the points myself. He also did my 2 X 6 cross pieces.I saved the best logs for posts.

I guess that's enough rambling on for now.
