A friend of mine had an unfinished woodcarving on the counter when I was over and got me interested in the hobby. He gave me a piece of Basswood and I bought a carving knife.

I finished my first attempt, an Adirondack hermit he had a pattern for and I am almost done with my second, an old cowboy I drew myself.

I am a writer and I write until I need a break from the desk and go carve a while. I clear my mind and carve. It has been therapeutic and both my wife and myself have been surprised at how much patients I have had carving. I chip carve.
