Default New image in carver Galleries

Hi all,

I just loaded an image to the carver galleries under my name "Thor".
This piece is heart felt and very symbolic to me. I wanted to show it to ya'll, because I just put the second coat of tung oil on it, and there is no one here to see it. You're all a kind bunch of folks and I thought maybe you would understand it.

It is a tribute and memorial to my horse who I lost in March of this year. He was a very good friend, and spent a great deal of his last years standing outside my carving studio with his head inside the door watching me with a little fan blowing in his face. He lived a long and comfortable life, and my life was richer for having known him. This carving will be above my fireplace.

The Celtic knotwork means that he will be remembered forever, and the oak tree on the left is for long life and strength. That's him in the center. He used to run with his head turned sideways. He's smiling.

Thor

Thor,
That's beautiful! I think you caught his spirit in it. I've grieved over a horse twice in my life. It's different than losing a friend...it's more like losing a part of you. You've captured his freedom in your art!

Thor, beautiful work and beautiful symbolism! I have never been blessed to be owned by a horse but I imagine that their passing has the same impact as the numerous dogs that have shared our home.

Amen! Fireplace is great - but over the door he looked through would be nice also (maybe another image!)... Great memorial...

Beautiful memorial to a true friend. Well done Thor. Beautifully carved.

Very hard to lose a pet no matter the breed! When we lost a llhaso Apso I said I wouldn't get another dog, too hard to lose them and hurts too much, but the house was awful empty...so we got a little shih tzsu...life would be very empty without this little turkey! She really fills a hole!

Thanks so much for the nice comments. I appreciate the sympothy for Smokey as well, and knew you all would not only be kind, but generous with your comments. What a great group!

Thor-i had a look at your tribute to smokey, and i find it to be a truly outstanding
piece, aside from the symbolism i think that the love you had for your friend has been transferred from your heart to your hands.

Great job

Frank
