Default New here....old carver

Pierre told me about this site so I thought I'd say Hi!

Brief backgroud: Started in Boy Scouts...'57 ish. Taught carving in summer camp. Got my degrees in wood tech ed. and taught for 9 years. Quit in '79 (my last real job). I do specialize in relief....mostly country and wildlife scenes, but whatever pays.

I'll post 2 pics....one from '79 (Great Seal done with 9 different woods, 30"dia. with clear finish) and the second a short time ago (5/4 eastern white pine with a 18" wingspan).

I think I got the pics the right size (I'm not real good with putters).

I've never been part of a wood carvers forum, so I'm sure it will take some time to see where I fit in.

Thanks

joe

Thanks David.

I think some of your paintings would make very good relief carving patterns. Have you tried?
I'm sure you'd do a great job on the staining too.

Wow Joe, Great job!!! I just signed up myself. I love Eagles, They were very special to my Dad. He passed away from cancer last year. When we were leaving his home (in the city) after the memorial reception. The most beautiful, huge, healthy, Bald Eagle flew only ten feet over his garage. Then slowly circled my husband and I then dipped his wing, slowly and gracefuly he flew off over the road and lifted over the hill and was gone. Your eagle is awesome. thank you! Lisa

Thanks Lisa, Cliff and Corey.

Lisa, sorry about your dad.....your eagle story is very touching. Strange how some things happen.

Dave.....no time like the present. I've found that you fine art types have got relief carving half in the bag. If you want to give it a try I might be able to help you get started.....oh, and BTW, reliefs look great on boxes!!!
