Default The New Guy

hello, im new to this website, magazine, and wood carving. i've had an interest in wood carving/whittling for some time now, just never gave it a shot. i saw this magazine in the store about a week ago and decided to pick it up. this has encouraged me to take my interest in carving to the next level of finally trying it lol. anyway, if anyone can give me some tips on anything (because i dont know anything lol) i'd appreciate it, thanks !

If you dont know anything .. you have come to the right place .. This message board is a learning experience ..

Heres some things to check out

Little Shavers Woodcarvers .. ( great source for beginners)

Search beginners woodcarving threads here on the board for different subjects discussed

Observe the different types of carving done here and decide what type of carving you would like to do ..

Get you a good beginners kit ( little shavers )

Check out Lynns website for step by step instruction OutWestWoodCarving

If you are interested in watching how to carve .. you can go to my U- tube videos on

Welcome Woodblock.....nice to have you on board. I agree with Gene! Check out the sites he has recommended and get you some tools and wood. No time to start like the present! Gene's videos are great and Lynn's blog real covers some excellent carving. Give it a look and welcome to a fellow Virginia carver (I actually live right across the line in Tennessee, but am originally from Virginia). Make yourself at home and be sure to use the search feature and ask some questions!

Great to have you!
Blake

Hello and welcome, looks like Gene and Blake have given you excellent advice. If you need carving wood such as Basswood (one of my favorites) you can order it Online or by phone by contacting Heinecke Wood Products These are super folks to do business with and I have used them for 2 1/2 years without a single problem with my order.

Hi Woodblock and welcome. There's so much posted here you just have to be patient and go through the forums. Once you've familiarized yourself with the style you'd like to try, you can really zero in. There's a lot of stuff in the gallery to get your creative juices going.
