Welcome to the board, really glad to see you join in. No problem, lots of ideas and a few opionions found here

What type of carving are you interested in? Relief, Charicature, chip, chainsaw? I do them all but none of them really well.

Also, if you would like input on tools and techniques just ask.

Again, welcome.

Greg

Welcome Johnny D.
I'm new to this forum also but not quite so new to woodcarving. I borrowed a DVD from my carving club, called "Beginning Woodcarving". It is being sold at
www.ellenwoodarts.com. It is one of the best beginning videos I have seen. He goes into woods, tools, sharpening, and the different kinds of carving that can be done. He then gives you some beginning projects to work on. The video is about 3 1/2 hours long. I am going to recommend it to all my beginning woodcarving friends.

welcome, Johnnie D
You might try looking thru the photo galleries to see what kind of carving appeals to you. Then you should find a book or video for some instruction.

Thank you all.

Actually I enjoy working with wood in general. My wife and I belong to the S.C.A. and we are thinking of doing some craft projects for sale and display. I did some wood turning in high school shop class (years ago) and thought something like that making bowls, mugs, smoking pipes etc would make a good hobby possible side bussiness.

Advice/ You want advice? Don't get involved in it. Take up something less addictive, like heroin or something. Once you start this you are hooked. Hooked, my friend. Joking aside, welcome to the board. You will like it here.
Doug
P.S.-- The board itself is sort of addictive too.
