Default new to forum, new to carving

Hey there!

I'm a complete beginner to wood carving, having no knowledge of the tools or the techniques required, and I thought checking out a forum would be a great idea to gather some first hand information from experienced wood carvers. Can i just say that this forum is fantastic, with no lack of helpful and experienced carvers!

So, i'm pleased to join this forum, and would greatly appreciate any help/tips/advice/suggestions as to what being a wood carver is all about.

Reading through the tutorials now...

Soltera, As others have said; welcome to the forum/message board. Several years ago I was new also. Well I'm really old, but new to carving. The members of this board, whether they like it or not, have all contributed to my learning. If you don't see what you need; just ask. You'll get more answers than you imagine. But I'm going way out on a limb now, and ask why you don't include where you are located. This may not seem like much, but to me it adds a great deal to a name that just appears on the board posting. That, and once you get started, some photoes of your carving. Again, welcome.

Hello Everyone!
My name is John Mulvey (Jack) I just became a member today. I run a Consignment Shoppe in Staten Island NY. My customers bring me some very interesting and old pieces. I just recieved a Wood carving of Christ on a cross. It is an Oberammergau Heinzeller 1950. It is signed and Has an insignia of a croos with a half moon mark through it and a Line in front. I always try to give my customers a fair deal. I just have no idea what this is worth. I was hoping someone can give me an idea... Thanks ..
