Default New chip carving member.

Hello to everybody out there! I am not sure what to expect from this site but it looked like a place I wanted to be a part of. I am a chip carver from the great state of Indiana and I use a John Dunkle knife. I also have started doing a little relief carving.

wecome from the great state of North Carolina. It's been real cold here last few weeks, but warmed up tonay so it could RAIN all day.No snow yet and we don't it but every few years, here on the coast. When we it shuts almost every thing down for a day or two. I grew up in the northern part of NY state and we got snow. To bad I can't find a chip carver around here to watch and give me hands on lesson. Welcome again, Duncan

Hello Duncan, I took two classes with Wayne Barton and he is very good. Watch your local Woodcraft stores for his classes. I used his books which are also very good for the beginner but I have found a new book on the market called Chip Carver's Workbook by Dennis Moor and this book is the one to get if you are just starting out. He does very good with all aspects of chip carving and the book is very detailed. If you are wanting patterns and tips I have a booklet I made called Ornament Patterns For Chip carvers and I sell it for $12.00+ shipping.

Hi CarverRog, wow that is one gourgous chipcarved cross. I was glad to see you recommend Moor's book. I'm planning to order his chip carving kit for beginners after Christmas.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Kathy
