Default New Carver/Wittler

Hey all,
Just starting out. I'm wanting to make tobacco pipes and sell them. My wife said I need to practice and so that's why I'm here. It is very relaxing I've found out. I'm working with a pine branch from my pine tree that was cut due to damage from another tree durning a storm. I'm going to try to make a lighthouse. Hopefully I can do that. So any help would be great.

Hi Chris, always room for another whittler. The secret is to take away everything that isn't part of the lighthouse.

And have fun, that's important too.

Sooner or later, you'll want to look at Basswood instead of pine.

Welcome to the forum.

i use horn, box wood for pipes its hard then most all of the long grain woods and it finishes nicely - as far as the lite house not sure how big it is if big 6-12"+ u can use oak, walnut, basswood, maple or any hard wood if its little under 3" use like a box wood or tighter grain wood the tighter wood will give u detail and hold it well
