| | Re: New Carver wannabe As far as knives go, it sounds like your just getting started. There are thousands of choices out there.
Get yourself a roughing knife and a detail knife to start with. The kniives that Rick sells are all high quality so you can't go wrong. I'm sort of a tool junky, I have 8 knives, but mainly use only 2. But I'm always on a quest for that knife that never needs sharpening. Have fun carving.

| | Re: New Carver wannabe Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to getting acquainted with the site and learning more about carving. I will look to update my knife collection soon, and try my had at carving in the round. My relief carving is getting better, but I still need the practice. I appreciate the suggestions on books, articles, and pointing me to sources. ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif) Carving. |

| | Re: New Carver wannabe Welcome CSM,
I can tell you one thing. I think "Highly" of Pfeil tools. I didn't know how sharp a tool should be, until I bought a couple of there chisels. They came pre-honed. After that I sharpened mine like there's, & carving became much easier for me after that.
I'm sure you're going enjoy this forum. They'll keep you well advised.
