If there are any other carvers in my local area. That's Dunnville Ontario Canada. It sure would be nice to meet someone on the local level. Question, is it better to use green wood as opposed to dead wood to carve a walking stick, would appreciat any and all input. Thanks |

Green wood is easier to carve than dry.... But green wood may also crack on you. Most people seal the ends of the stick and let it dry for 1-2 years before carving. But heck, I would go for it just oil it down after carving it. Watco oil or tongue oil works well. 5 coats or sooooooo Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy it here. Greg |

tucker, you might want to check out the show in Toronto in October (20-21st), its listed under "Calendar of Events" on this website. It would be a good way to meet some carvers of all skill levels.

| Welcome Tucker, You might want to check Ontario Wood Carvers Association website at http://www.ontariowoodcarvers.com/ If you do not find what you need here, send them email - they will be happy to help. The show in October should be a good one - a lot of good carvers to meet and make friends. Fred |
