| Hello, I'm Jeff and I've only been carving for about a month now. I have been having difficulty carving realistic eyes for my wood spirits and would like to know which tools are the best ones for carving realistic eyes. I have heard that both Warren Micro gouges and Dockyard micro gouges are the ones I should be using. Anybody have a suggestion??? Right now I am using a Ramelson starter set but I don't think the tools I am using are small enough to detail eyes. I bought a cheap set of Chinese tools which I might as well throw in the garbage which arrived very dull and wouldn't even cut my finger when I slipped. I am carving in cottonwood bark so my faces are pretty small. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Jeff |

I have a 1.5mm set of Docyards, and I like them very much, have used them pretty hard and often for almost a year now, and they are holding up fine. At shows, I have seen individual Dockyards for sale at shows, too. Welcome to the board! This place is an incredible wealth of information! have fun!

Jeff, I agree with Tree Wizard, Paul, that you could learn to just use a knife, then it will work no matter what size carving you are working on. Tom |
