Default New Carver from Michigan

I visited a friend in TN, he was getting into carving, and showed me. I am hooked and loving it. I pastor a church and am busy, but a hobby is what I needed. I have been carving on my own for a few months and went to my first class yesterday with Floyd Rhadigan. it was great.

I have question about getting a 1/4 Drake Veiner. Where do I get this, as I have searched alot. Can anyone help, or suggest another make of a 1/4 inch veiner. Is this a #5 also?

Welcome!!
We're so glad you joined us. Isn't carving great fun? And wasn't it nice of your friend to share it with you?

I'm not familiar with the "Drake" brand. My most used veiners are Stubai and they can be obtained from many carving catalogues. I get quite a few from Larry Yudis at his carving shop in Bettendorf, Iowa and he has a great catalogue. CJ Whillock carries them out of their Faribault, MN catalogue.

Come back soon.

I've done several searches for DRAKE VEINERS and have come up with only one possibility....well, not actually.

A Canadian supplier sells a "Swiss Made" Drake Undercutter. Looks like a dog leg cleanout chisle.

He also has a selection of various sized veiners.

Run a google for drake veiners and you will find his Ebay sight.

It looks like you are talking about two different tools, unless someone makes a dog leg veiner, and that would seem a bit improbable, but then again when it comes to carvng tools nearly nothing is impossible.

Thanks for the welcomes. I have found the carving community, well... it way bigger than I ever realized, and it way nice. Thanks for the reception.

The drake veiner is a local thing I guess. I believe I met to say denny, so thanks for the link.

Great to hear from you Mark! Wish I was in Oregon to get some teaching from you. do you ever visit in southern Michigan?
