Hi and welcome. I just joined myself, also from New Mexico, Albuquerque though. Carlsbad sure is beatiful. I can't help with the pattern, but just wanted to say Hi.

Thanks for the welcome! We go to Albuquerque, too, but the goal then is to shop. I'm still working on walking sticks with a wood spirit carved near the top. One person on this forum mentioned putting the hoof or paw print on the stick. I'll do that on the next one with a bear or other special animal. I've put carved arrow heads and bears on several. The last stick I cleaned and sanded has a "bug burrow" near the top. We usually fill that with a turquoise colored putty that looks good for the southwest style. I did get a pattern, thanks to another member of this forum!
