Default New carver bio

I am new to the message board but have been carving for several years and was instructed by the Northern Virginia Woodcarvers. My interests are in small figurines and some relief carvings, favorite figures are Santa's, gnomes, animals, Angels, Little Guys and whatever else strikes my fancy. I have a home studio/workshop and make lots of woodchips in between gardening and furniture making which are my other passions. I have been retired 6 years from a career as an engineer with a company that supported the US Navy in shipbuilding programs for combatant ships; I have been a chair person on an ASTM shipbuilding Committee and have many fine friends and associates around the country. I enjoy traveling and visit my buddies and old shipmates from the USS Yosemite AD19 whenever I can.

Welcome UncleVito, sounds like you've been busy. Looking forward to seeing some of that "Northern Virginia Woodcarvers" style carving on the forum.

Welcome Uncle Vito,
Retired? What's that?

Actually, those of us who still work full time envy you the flexibility of being able to carve when you want--if it's ok with the other boss??? Spare time seems to fill up fast, doesn't it.

Glad you're here--come back often. Let us see some of your carvings and let us know if there's anything we can do to help you.
