Default New Carver & Bladesmith

Greetings from northern Minnesota-
Just wanted to introduce myself. I started carving with an old electrician's knife when I was seven. Cut myself with it when I was eight, and learned to sharpen shortly thereafter.
I learned to make my own carving tools out of mechanical hacksaw blades that my dad brought home from work. It was like Christmas when I saw a hacksaw blade sittin on the countertop after work.
I now forge carving knives and have a kind of obsession with obtaining the sharpest edge.
I carve anything and everything that suits my fancy. Right now I'm working on a 36" Northern pike caricature, and 12 pt. whitetail bust, Shawn Cipa snowman, the list goes on and on....

I have the best of the woodcarvers dream; I live on 80 acres filled with Minnesota basswood, I make my own tools and am married to a great woman that also likes to carve and does a better paint job than I do.
Life is good!

Yep, Life is Good! A little complicated at times, but good! And it sounds like you have a pretty good piece of it there in northern Minnesota. Welcome to the board and be sure to post some of your carving when you get a chance.

Great to have you here. We all need to step back and see just how good we have it. Now I will admit, you may have it better than some (or is it most). If you've got your health, sounds like you really do "got it all" (or nearly all). Looking forward to your posts and photos. Tom H

I guess the term "WELCOME" is correct, but not strong enough to embrace someone who can give help with experience, advice with intelligence and praise for a job well done.
GREETINGS BROTHER

Hello,

Those look like some knives that I have seen on ebay. Is that you selling those on ebay? I'm going to have to order myself one of your knives. I have an obsession with collecting carving knives, and I don't have one of yours yet!!

Good Luck,
Dan Heine

Hey-
Lackswood? I'll bet your knife stays sharp when you carve that stuff. Yes, those are some of my knives on ebay. They are the knives that don't exactly fit any profile that fits the catalog but is still too good to throw in the scrap pile. A great way to finance sharpening tools.
